The Emett Clock has been on exhibition at Millennium Point in Birmingham, and will be returning to intu Victoria Centre once major remodelling work has been completed in 2015.
A team of engineers from intu Victoria Centre worked closely with volunteers from The Rowland Emett Society to dismantle, catalogue and protect the clock as it was moved to Birmingham where it has been lovingly restored.
During the clock’s time away from Nottingham, intu Victoria Centre will undergo an extensive £40m remodelling, which will include a new catering cluster with 12 restaurants, improved customer facilities and modern new entrances to the centre. The clock will return to the centre in a prominent new location once the remodelling is complete.
Janine Bone, regional centre director at intu Victoria Centre, said: “The Emett Clock is part of the centre’s heritage, and its preservation is important to us. There is a great deal of emotional attachment and nostalgia surrounding the clock for many of our customers, and we have listened carefully to their opinions.
“The clock’s future was considered very seriously within our discussions about the remodelling of the centre. Sharing the clock with The Rowland Emett Society allows us to protect it during the construction works and restore the clock its former glory. The clock will be returned to the centre in 2015 looking as good as new.”
Nottingham Street Food Club, a brand new independent indoor street food market has opened at intu Victoria Centre – a first for the city.
The 150-seater venue features four hot food stalls and a bar, all manned by local independent traders.
