Here at intu Uxbridge, we’ve chosen two fantastic charities to support throughout 2016, and with your help, raise as much awareness and vital funds for as possible.
This year, we’ll be supporting Cardiac Risk in the Young and Rainbow Trust.
Look out for a selection of fundraising events across the year, donation pots in-centre and much more to help these two fantastic charities in 2016.
Rainbow Trust supports families who have a child aged 0-18 years of age with a life threatening or terminal illness and need the bespoke support we offer.
Today there are an estimated 49,000 children and young people in the UK living with a life limiting or life threatening condition who may require palliative care (University of Leeds, 2011). Many of these children and their families are able to cope or are not in a ‘crisis situation’. However, thousands of families have to face the very real possibility that their child may die and struggle to cope on a day to day basis.
Rainbow Trust supports these families who have a child with a life threatening or terminal illness and are in the greatest need. Their Family Support Workers provide a life line to these families and children, including parents, carers, the unwell child, brothers, sisters and grandparents. They bring support and help to families who so desperately need it at home, in hospital and in the community. Any family can receive support from the moment of their child or young person’s diagnosis.
Rainbow Trust support families in many ways, and so far have worked with 1,958 families, providing 2,958 hours of sibling support, 10,144 hours of home support, 7,671 hours of hospital support and 1,009 hours of bereavement support.
Throughout the 2016, we managed to raise £7,470 for Rainbow Trust, through charity collections in centre, and multiple events. We treated 20 terminally ill children and their siblings children from the Rainbow Trust, to a trip to Port Lympe Zoo in Kent last October, escorted by some brilliant intu Uxbridge team members from various departments. Multiple donations where made to rainbow trust, through the purchasing of Passports in our Christmas Experience. We look forward to working with Rainbow Trust another year.
