intu provides additional support and customer service for our customers with dementia, their families and carers.
Following our drive to make our centres autism friendly, this year we are working towards becoming dementia friendly, using Dementia Action Week as an opportunity to raise awareness and create some dementia friendly activities.
Some of the activities we will be doing throughout the week are:
In the UK, one person develops dementia every three minutes, yet too many people feel excluded and face the disease alone.
That’s why, this Dementia Action Week, Alzheimer’s Society will be asking people to unite and take actions big and small to make a difference to the everyday lives of people with dementia. It could be as simple as being more patient in queues or helping make your business dementia-friendly.
Following a survey Alzheimer’s Society ran asking people living with dementia what actions they would like the general public to make, a couple of the actions that came out can be strongly linked to shopping/going out with friends and people offering support in community areas:
• If I seem confused, ask if I need help. These little things help me stay independent
• Invite me out. Friends still mean the world to me.
• If you have questions about dementia, let’s talk about it
People living with dementia have told Alzheimer’s Society that shopping is their favourite activity (80 per cent). Being able to live well with dementia relies on the places people want to visit being dementia friendly. However, people with dementia say retail spaces aren’t catering for their needs (63 per cent).
Our corporate responsibility (CR) initiatives are closely tied to the successful running of our centres and help deliver operational excellence.
