There’s a huge amount of behind the scenes activity that goes on when running a shopping centre including supporting the local community. Here’s what we’ve achieved since April.
Charities that have benefited from free promotional space include the local charity, Assistance Dogs and The Peter Pan Children’s Centre, who took part in our intu Summer Party in July…
Where we’ve really gone the extra mile is through our staff volunteer scheme. intu encourages the team to participate in up to 15 hours of volunteering during work time.
Volunteering schemes we have supported this year include:
Douglas Macmillan annual golf day
2 members of staff assisted Douglas Macmillan at Trentham Golf Club. They helped to raise a grand total of £23,130 by volunteering at the event. They hosted a game where the golfers paid £5 for the chance to get the golf ball in the 5 metre 9 hole.
Breast Cancer Care Pink Ribbon Walk
3 members of staff volunteered for the event in Bakewell. signing in the walkers, giving medals and patrolling the route. The walkers were raising money for Breast Cancer Care to help people affected by breast cancer.
Keele business in the community day
2 members of staff went to Keele University to talk to students about intu Potteries as part of the Business in the Community event which was organised. 483 students from 9 schools, with 34 businesses were in attendance.
We also hold activities within the intu team to support charities including:
Alzheimer’s Society cupcake day
Staff baked and faked lots of cakes and treats which helped to raise £100 during cupcake day. The money raised helped the Alzheimer’s Society continue their research and support with 100% of the profits helps fight dementia!
National Walking month
A lunch time walk for staff was initiated by a member of the team. It took place in the local Hanley park to raise awareness of national walking month and break out times with exercise for staff.
The centre is also continuing to receive applications to the 2017 charity donation budget. If you know a local registered charity who would benefit from a charity donation please email us at firstname.lastname@example.org before the 11 August 2017.
Sandrine Rutter, Marketing Manager said “We pride ourselves on being a hub of the community, by encouraging local charities and community groups to use our centre to promote the fantastic work that they do every year. We pride ourselves in the volunteering projects that we are involved in and are happy to support our staff in these activities”.
