During these times, supporting local businesses has been key to helping us get the things we need, when we need them. As well as an abundance of desirable high street names such as Zara, Apple and Hugo Boss, intu Milton Keynes also proudly boasts its independent business draw. To support Independent Retailer Month this July we want to showcase our permanent collection of local independent shops, brands and restaurants. intu Milton Keynes even has several small-business-focussed events in the calendar, that appeals to the savvy shopper
Made in Sud
Made in Sud, the authentic Italian Pizzeria on the Boulevard is owned by Leonardo Bianco and brings the first true and only authentic Neapolitan Pizzeria to Milton Keynes and is a chance for visitors to experience the chance of Southern Italy – the Salsiccia & Friarielli is to die for!
The team joined intu Milton Keynes at the first ever Artisan market in May 2017 and following an initial week trial, they soon realised there was a more permanent and healthy appetite for their traditional pizza.
Made in Sud’s reputation has grown across the city and have become a destination of their own, quality and authenticity are key ingredient to their success.
Located next to Made in Sud on the East boulevard, visitors will find the perfect accompanying dessert - Churros Mexicanos. The light and airy, sugary treat with mouth-watering dipping sauces is a family favourite. The large upturned sombrero holders with protruding sticks of deliciousness can be seen hovering throughout the centre by children, and adults alike. The Churros are also suitable for vegans too – and the salted carmel sauce is out of this world!
The family-run business joined intu Milton Keynes in December 2018 and continue to spread sweetness across the city.
The Dutch Hospital
On the other side of the Boulevard, near Hollister and Wrapchic, you will find a real treasure: The Dutch Hospital who joined intu Milton Keynes in May 2019 showcase a curated collection of homeware and gifts sourced from all around the world. The Dutch Hospital – which gets its name from the historic Old Dutch Hospital building in Sri Lanka where Anjali is from – specialises in luxurious and timeless home, wedding and giftware.
If you have that special someone to buy a unique gift for, or you want to find a special feature piece for your home, this is the place to find it. From golden pineapple bookends to extravagant feathered mirrors, this treasure trove of gifts is simply magical.
Etsy MK and artisan markets
Our local Etsy and Artisan market and events take place throughout the year and consist of up to 80 individual stalls lining our mall with their handmade products. The events have grown in success and popularity and give small, local businesses a wonderful opportunity to showcase their products to thousands of visitors.
We hope to see some of our favourites return, such as Outhouse who create handcraft goods from local and sustainable material, Flat 102 who create the most stunning gift cards, White Rabbit Apparel with their unique and quirky upcycled fashion and Baxter’s Boutique who create lovely handmade accessories for fashion conscious dogs. Whether you're looking to pick up a bespoke or unique gift for a loved one or simply treat yourself as well as support local businesses, these markets are the perfect opportunity!
Whilst the current climate means our events are on hold, watch this space to find out when our Etsy markets will be returning.
If you are a local business and are interested in taking part in a future market, please contact the Etsy MK team here to find out more.
