From 17th July 2014, over 16 ping pong tables have sprung up across Milton Keynes’ landmarks locations – from the intu Milton Keynes (formally Midsummer Place) to the Lakes Estate, the fields of Olney to the bustle of Station Square and even MK Gallery. The tables are there for everyone to enjoy, for free, over the six weeks of summer. To join in the fun, simply borrow a bat from the side of the table and play ball!
Ping! Milton Keynes is produced by Milton Keynes Council Sports Development Team, in partnership with Table Tennis England, Make a Difference and Sing London. It is one of 16 regions that have been selected to be part of Ping! this year, along with Oxford, Birmingham, Liverpool and London, to name a few.
ANDREW BAGGALEY, Team GB London Olympian & Commonwealth Games Double Gold Medallist says "I am genuinely very excited for Milton Keynes with the launch of Ping! The Ping! project has been massively successful all over the country and I am positive that the Milton Keynes public will get into the spirit of this great opportunity to get fit and active during the summer in Milton Keynes! I will personally be helping by launching National Table Tennis Day on Thursday 17th July at Station Square (Milton Keynes Central Railway Station) at 1pm and would love to see all budding table tennis enthusiasts, young and old, out in force to celebrate this special new day!"
“We are delighted to have Ping! tables throughout Milton Keynes this summer, this is a great opportunity for absolutely anyone to pick up a bat and get involved in a game of ping pong and enjoy various fun Ping! events taking place across the borough” says Vicki Clark of Milton Keynes Council.
In addition to freeplay, Milton Keynes’ Ping! tables offer a programme of scheduled activities, including masterclasses and tournaments. There are also occasional ‘Random Acts of Ping Pong’ where you can expect the unexpected. Look out for a fancy dress tournament, guided cycle tours, as well as the ‘decorate a bat’ challenge.
