DEFINITION OF ROLE:
As a Visual Merchandising Team Leader you will support the Management team in leading and inspiring the team to deliver a ‘World Class’ Visual proposition to our customers. You set the standard that our Visual Merchandisers aspire to, by being a Role Model and showcasing true visual excellence in your own work. You encourage, support and coach the team on a day to day basis. By demonstrating positive leadership behaviours you will encourage the team to be flexible to meet the needs of the business.
SCOPE OF ROLE:
You will support your Manager in looking after a team of 1 - 6 Visual Merchandisers. You will be primarily responsible for delivering a visually exciting environment, but you will also coach and support the store team to deliver great service and motivate them to work in a fast paced environment.
*In Core stores the Visual Merchandising Team Leader role will sometimes have combined visual and creative responsibilities, these have been asterisked.


RESPONSIBILITIES
COMMERCIAL FLAIR
 You develop a great understanding of your local market and competitors, conducting competitive shops, identifying store specific opportunities and adapting Brand Guidelines to ensure that we deliver and challenge all merchandising.
 You are able to utilise all commercial tools and can make suggestions to the Management team identifying risks, and opportunities to maximise sales and drive store performance.
 You demonstrate and coach the team on the importance of using reports to ensure product placement is considered to drive best sellers and protect markdown.
 You ensure all current promotions are launched to the highest standards and to guidelines, highlighting any concerns or opportunities to the Management team.
 You see the availability of stock as important and support the team in ensuring all sizes are out for our customers and that stock is easy to find.
 You may also be required to support the Management team with wider Store responsibilities such as key holder duties.
FUTURE FOCUS
 You actively generate ideas to evolve the Visual Proposition in store, either through adaptation of Brand guidelines or suggesting new ways to use the space, e.g. layout ideas and fixture placement.
 As well as supporting the Management team in delivering the day to day running of the team, you will plan aspects of the week and month ahead that are relevant to your position e.g. reviewing and ordering graphics ahead of Model Store.
 You do research using outside influences such as Tumblr, Fashion blogs and Catwalk shows to inform your merchandising ideas and support communication of seasonal Trend information through the Store team.
DRIVING RESULTS
 You lead the team in making sure all Visual Merchandising/Creative tasks do not impact on service levels and put the needs of the customer first at all times.
 You identify areas in store requiring work and can prioritise workload. You support the Management team with an action plan and timescales to address.
 You react positively to visit feedback from your Area Manager, Field Visual Merchandiser (FVM) and Field Creative to evolve the Store in line with the latest Visual Merchandising update and Store performance.
 You welcome all visual feedback from the Management team and communicate feedback to the team in a positive way.
 You are able to problem solve and always demonstrate a positive attitude.
 You support the Management team in the successful delivery of Model Store set up from initial planning stages to launch and help to communicate this to the team.
DEVELOPING THE BEST
 You constantly give feedback to the team, celebrating success and being constructive and supportive where improvement is needed.
 You are able to adapt your approach to individuals and can identify both individual and team training needs and support in the development of these through one to one coaching and training workshops.
 You support with the selection and coaching of new team members.
 You help to create a fun and dynamic culture, and make sure that working for Topshop/Topman is the best place to work on the high street.
 You are seen as a Brand and Visual expert in store and share your knowledge and experience with the Store team i.e. support store management in preparing and delivering team briefs.
 You profile the Visual Merchandising/Creative function in Store to ensure it is recognised as aspirational so the wider store team understand your role.
 You coach the team to deliver visual and creative consistency throughout the store.
RESILIENCE
 You have the ability to deal with difficult customer or team situations in the correct way, ensuring the customer and the team are always looked after, seeking advice from management when needed.
 You show passion and commitment towards your own development and inspire the team to do the same, responding to feedback in a positive and professional way.
 You show flexibility and support to the Visual Merchandising/Management team when shifts change and encourage the team to do the same.
 You demonstrate an ability to react quickly to changing situations and deliver at pace, displaying great problem solving skills and a positive attitude.
 You start to build good relationships across Store/Area and Visual Teams.
VISUAL/ CREATIVE EXCELLENCE
 You can implement and challenge Visual Merchandising guidelines, adjusting direction to suit store stock package and customer e.g. colour stories, outfits and arm configurations.
 You have a sound knowledge of Layout and Fixture Placement principles and have the technical skills to be able to evolve this in line with latest Brand guidelines.
 You are able to carry out a floor walk with a Field Visual Manager/Field Creative/Member of Management team confidently.
 You support the wider Retail area where appropriate by supporting any Brand activity and developing the skill base of others.
*You ensure Creative standards are high across all creative treatments and elements and challenge creative proposition and use of equipment/ props to create an exciting store environment.
* You can implement Creative guidelines to suit Store Visual needs and stock package.
* You maintain and up keep all creative props to minimise store costs, taking ownership of the in-store environment to ensure that all decoration is kept to a high standard and maintenance tasks are completed professionally.
* You support your line manager to ensure that all Health and Safety guidelines are met when constructing all props and installations to provide a safe environment for both customers and the team.
