Come and visit MK Pharmacy First at intu Milton Keynes on Thursday 9 April from 10am - 4pm. You can find out more about the campaign and how your local pharmacist can help you. You can shake hands with the MK Pharmacy First Bear and you'll get the chance to win one of ten small bears every hour if you can answer a few simple questions.
MK Pharmacy First is a new local initiative to encourage people to go to their local pharmacy first for minor ailments instead of visiting their GP or A & E. Pharmacists are highly trained healthcare professionals who study pharmacy for five years. Pharmacists have in-depth knowledge of all medicines which GPs prescribe and have a wide experience of over-the-counter medicines too so they can be an invaluable help to people seeking advice about health issues.
Dr Nicola Smith, GP Chair of Milton Keynes CCG said: “Many pharmacists have much longer opening hours than GPs and you can usually be seen almost immediately. If people want privacy then ask to see the pharmacist in the consultation room. Also, if people already get free prescriptions then the pharmacist will be able to give you recommended medicines free of charge as long as you are registered with a GP in Milton Keynes. I really encourage Mums and Dads to use the MK Pharmacy First and visit their local pharmacist with their child instead of going to the GP or A & E if it is for a common ailment like a cough, cold, hay fever or tummy upset”.
You can still be in with a chance of winning a bear in a number of MK pharmacies so just look out for the teddy bear on the counter and ask staff about MK Pharmacy First.
Nainesh Patel, local community pharmacist said, “My patients really value the MK Pharmacy First service as they are able to get immediate help and treatment for a range of conditions and illnesses. By building relationships with local families we have become a trusted source for healthcare advice.”
