Essex Police deploys specialist assets and launches Project Servator at intu Lakeside on the first day of the school summer holidays.

Project Servator deployments are highly visible police patrols designed to deter, disrupt and detect criminal activity from shoplifting and pickpocketing to more serious crime including terrorism.

They involve both uniformed and plain-clothed officers, supported by other resources such as armed officers, police dogs, a network of CCTV cameras, security staff and the hundreds of retailers we’ll work in partnership with.

Chief Inspector Jon Hayter, said: “Today was predictably a very busy day at Lakeside, which is why we chose today to launch Project Servator in Essex. The more eyes and ears we have on the ground supporting us, the better.

“Shoppers will have noticed a highly visible police presence at intu Lakeside and police dog NAME was a big hit.

“These deployments will now happen regularly, can happen at any time and will involve varied specialist assets.

“Don’t be alarmed or surprised if you spot Servator activity. Our officers are here to keep you safe and I’d encourage members of the public to speak to us if they have any concerns.

“You can play a vital role by being vigilant and reporting any suspicious behaviour.”
Marc Myers, general manager at intu Lakeside, said: "We have very close working relationships with the security services and police at a national and local level so we had no hesitation in working with Essex Police on Project Servator.”.

“We take the safety and security of our customers and staff seriously and this project is just another way in which we continually adapt and flex our approach.”

"It’s great to have Essex Police in the centre today working alongside our own experienced staff to launch such a great initiative".
