7 sweat-proof make-up products tested by our sweatiest editor

Whether you’re training for a marathon, pumping iron or smashing up spin class, getting sweaty is all part of the fun. But if you wear make-up whilst working out, then you’ll be all too familiar with mascara smudges, panda eyes and foundation sliding down your face. Not a good look.

So, in the interest of looking half decent whilst getting fit, our editor tested the best sweat-proof make-up that’ll stay put no matter how hard you hit it at the gym - because some of those PT’s are cute, right?

Benefit BADgal Waterproof Mascara, £19.50

The brush on this was almost intimidatingly big, but as soon as I applied it, my lashes seemed to double in volume; this is defo one for girls that prioritise thickness over length. As for the sweat v mascara test, my sweaty post bootcamp face was definitely a contender, but BADgal came out on top - there were absolutely no smudges or blackness around my eye-line, nor did my lashes stick together. It’s a yes from me.

Maybelline SuperStay 24H Foundation, £9.99

This foundation gave seriously full coverage; it’s more than I’d probably wear on a day to day basis never mind at the gym. However, if you’re looking for something that’s going to keep you looking flawless no matter how red and sweaty you get - then this is for you; it didn’t budge. Be warned though, it feels a little thick on your skin and you can definitely tell you’re wearing makeup.

Lancome Sourcils EyeBrow Gel Cream in Brun, £19.50

This is pretty pricey but on balance, totally worth it. I went for the 05 brun shade as I’m blonde but like my eyebrows to look quite thick and dark. The result was a really natural looking eyebrow (perfect for the gym) and it has a creamy powdery finish - not at all stiff and easy to comb out. Plus, it stays put all day, workout or no workout.

Lancome Belle De Teint Healthy Skin Powder, £35

This powder was really light weight and hence easy to apply; You can see the effects of the powder without actually seeing the powder on your skin. It has a velvety soft texture and works great as a quick face touch-up before hitting the gym if you’re worried about red cheeks or imperfections showing though, but you don’t want to wear liquid foundation.

Stila Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick in Dolce, £16

This lippie does exactly what it says on the tin (well, tube) and there are so many shades to choose from; I went for Dolce, a natural creamy pink/nude for my workout and it looked great the whole way through, with no running or smudging. The lipstick goes on smoothly with even lip coverage and doesn’t dry out, either.

Smashbox Always Sharp Waterproof Kohl Liner in Raven, £17

I was dubious about wearing thick black eyeliner to the gym, but in the name of this experiment I begrudgingly drew on my flicks, and hit the squat rack. No matter how much I sweated, there was no running or panda eyes; even when I got out of the shower afterwards, my flicks were still intact. I left the gym wondering how I’d ever get this stuff off if I'm honest…

bareMinerals Barepro 16-hour Concealer Cream stick, £18.40

This concealer glided on easily with no creasing and was great at hiding those pesky dark circles we can all relate to mid-way through the week; it also hid any blemishes like a boss. It’s unique Mineral Lock Wear Technology is supposed to ensure it stays put throughout the day, hence it was great for hitting the gym - plus its cream-stick applicator format means it’s easy to pop in your gym bag and use on the go.
