Easter is fast approaching, and although for some of us this means lots of delicious, chocolate-filled days of indulgence, it can often be disappointing for those of us following a plant-based or free-from lifestyle. But, there’s no need for vegan chocolate fans to miss out on all the fun, as nowadays you can find decadent dark, milk and white chocolate eggs, without milk or eggs in sight on their ingredients list – result!
We’ve rounded up the best ones at different price points, so everyone can enjoy tucking in to an egg-shaped treat this Easter…
Hotel Chocolat, Extra-Thick Easter Egg – Rare & Vintage, £31.00
Vegan (of course) and extra thick, this oh-so-decadent chocolate egg is made up of two halves, Honduras 72% dark chocolate with notes of red fruits, raisins and oak, and Colombia 75% dark chocolate with notes of Chardonnay and butterscotch. The price tag is pretty high, but we reckon it’s worth it…
Sainsbury’s, Deliciously Free From White Chocolate Egg, £3.50
White chocolate has always been controversial, but for those with a sweet tooth, you can go wrong with this smooth and creamy offering from Sainsbury’s free-from range. It’s a bargain too at just £3.50! We predict this one won’t be around on the shelves for long…
Hotel Chocolat, Gianduja Ribbon Bag, £6
Made with smooth praline (and no milk whatsoever!) these mini eggs are made from soya and hazelnut, and we guarantee you won’t be able to stop at one. They’re beautifully packaged too, and make for the perfect, grown-up Easter gift.
Tesco Free From White Chocolate & Raspberry Egg & Truffles, £3.00
Is there a better combo than white chocolate and raspberry? We think not. Another white chocolate offering, this egg is filled with freeze dried raspberry pieces and comes with salted caramel truffles as a bonus. It’s also priced at just £3 – what are you waiting for?!
Waitrose, Moo Free cheeky orange egg, £4
A vegan alternative to a Terry’s Chocolate Orange, this organic egg with orange flavouring is made from cocoa butter and rice powder. The packaging is also super cute!
Hotel Chocolat, Mint chocolate hard-boiled Easter egg, £15
If you’re looking for a show-stopper egg, then this is certainly it. This 70% dark chocolate egg with a hint of Tasmanian peppermint oil is a mint chocolate-lover’s dream, and we’d go as far as to say, a work of art. At £15 it’s not cheap, but it’ll keep you going for a while.
Sainsbury’s, Buttermilk Free From Choc Honeycomb Easter Egg, £6
Sainsbury’s free-from eggs are seriously impressing us this year, and this buttermilk one is no exception; Chocolate, caramel and buttermilk is a winning combo in our book. We’d say don’t eat it all at once, but we’re not sure we’d be able to follow our own advice.
Tesco, Moo Free Mikey Scrummy Caramel Bunny, £2.50
For the dairy-intolerant or vegan little ones in your life, this cute little chocolate bunny treat makes the perfect Easter gift. Plus, it’s an absolute steal at £2.50! We’ll be buying a few and making an Easter bunny family…
