Staff at intuEldon Square have undergone a stylish make over following the re-brand of the shopping centre.

Workers have waved goodbye to their old red and black uniforms, and embraced smart black suits with crisp white shirts and orange scarves or ties, heralding the vibrant orange of the intu brand.

Jacqui Paice, Facilities Manager, intu Eldon Square, has been responsible for the roll out of the new uniform across twelve intu properties throughout the UK, as the shopping centre company re-branded from Capital Shopping Centres.

Jacqui said:

“This was a huge undertaking, with around 1,500 members of staff to deck out in their new attire, which looked particularly daunting on paper! We ordered 10,500 branded or printed items of clothing, which all had to be made within a rather tight time frame and to budget. Over 12,000 garments needed almost 14,000 embroderies, and close to 17,000 garments were delivered to 1,500 ‘man packs.’ 

The fresh uniforms reflect the overall new branding of intu properties throughout the UK. Here at intu Eldon Square, they have certainly been an instant hit with staff and customers alike. The colour orange is recognised as being the colour of joy, interaction, creativity and playfulness, and we had all of these qualities in abundance at our photo shoot to celebrate the launch of the new uniforms. The better quality of uniform underlines how much the staff are valued at both an individual and team basis.”

Jason Moore, a member of the security team in centre, was delighted with his new uniform, saying:

“I think it’s absolutely fabulous. The old red uniform was so dated, this is so much smarter and more modern. This new style is far more professional for all staff.”

Even staff who have not previously worn a uniform as part of their job asked to be considered to be part of the new ‘look.’

Senior Administrator Donna Harrop added:

“ When the admin team saw the samples and style of uniform in the planning process, we were really impressed with the quality of product and the new image, and we unanimously declared that we wanted to be included in wearing it. In the first instance, it made us feel part of the bigger picture, moving forward as part of the intu family, as it brought the whole shopping centre together as a team. Another huge bonus for us ladies is the fact that we don’t have to think about what we have to wear in the morning – we have some great choices of skirt, dress or trousers, so it’s a win win situation for us!”

Phil Steele, General Manager of intu Eldon Square, commented:

“It’s very exciting to be involved in the development of our re-brand to intu Eldon Square. Our fantastic team here at intu Eldon Square has always taken pride in offering excellence in customer service, and we are currently investing in further training to ensure that shoppers experience a ‘World Class’ level of service, where customers enjoy experiences of surprise, delight and variety.

In the very near future visitors will be able to take advantage of free wi-fi, scheduled for the end of May. We’re also investing in the creation of, an exciting new website offering products from a wide range of retailers, enabling customers to buy online around the clock, and a click and collect facility in centre.

We believe this will give intu Eldon Square shoppers a complete shopping centre experience, with the choice to shop physically and online, providing the best of both worlds.”
