Recycle your school uniform at intu Eldon Square

All uniforms will be donated to the Community School Clothing Scheme

Encouraging families to donate unwanted school uniforms this summer!

Unwanted school uniform? Families visiting intu Eldon Square this summer can donate any unwanted school uniform to the Community School Clothing Scheme.

We will accept all unwanted school skirts, shirts, dresses, shoes, trousers and branded jumpers in sealed bags from Monday 20 July to September 2020, at a collection point located on St. Andrew's Way, outside Allsaints and Morphe.

The Community School Clothing Scheme was set up three years ago by Freema Chambers who struggled to replace her son’s school trousers in times of financial difficulties and relied on passed down clothing from her friends. Over 1,458 donations were made at intu Eldon Square last year.

Following on from this, the charity has worked with both intu Metrocentre and intu Eldon Square to create a safe donation process, following government guidelines. All clothes donated must be placed in a sealed bag and will remain sealed for 72 hours before the charity opens, sorting and distribution will take place off-site.

On collection the charity will wear full PPE to follow all precautions to keep their staff and volunteers safe. The centres will also regularly clean touch points on the donation box and hand sanitizer is available throughout the centre for all customers.

Freema, said: “As the majority of children have been at home these last few months their uniforms may be in great condition, we ask rather than throwing these away you place any unwanted uniform into a sealed bag and drop these at the collection point at intu Metrocentre and intu Eldon Square. This year has been very difficult for many, donating your unwanted school uniforms is a great way to help families who need it most in our region. We hope to see lots of donations and are extremely grateful for every single one made.”

Clare Cannon, community manager at intu Eldon Square, added: “Following last year’s success, we’re thrilled to welcome The Community School Clothing Scheme back to intu Eldon Square. It has always been important for us to support the community and work with partners to create a positive impact.

Freema and her team, work tirelessly to support as many families as possible and I’m delighted the centres can play their own part in supporting this amazing charity.”

All donations must be placed in a sealed plastic bag ahead of entering both shopping destinations.
