Our Panel of Fun will be taking on very important missions throughout the year. It could be anything from food tasting to posing for a photo shoot in the latest kids' fashions, and we will tell you all about it on this page.
It's December and that means Christmas show time! The Panel were invited to see Cinderella at Derby Theatre, check out their review.
School may be out for the summer but it’s business as usual for the Panel of Fun. This month they have been putting the centre’s restaurants to the test in a food-tasting showdown.
As part of their mission to ensure the centre is fun and family-friendly, the Panel were asked to carry out rigorous taste tests on kids’ dishes from some of the centre’s newest restaurants including Joe’s Kitchen, Byron Burger, Wagamama and Zizzi’s.
At Joe’s Kitchen, they tried eggy bread, homemade fish fingers and fruit-topped pancakes, all of which were a firm Panel favourite with Charlotte commenting “I loved the pancakes from Joe’s Kitchen! I could eat them forever!”
Wagamama served up a taste of Japan with kids-sized dishes including yaki soba, yasai cha han and chicken katsu. Ella-Rose had never katsu before and she absolutely loved it.
Burger specialists Byron, provided classics such as chicken and beef burgers, as well as a homemade vanilla milkshake that went down a storm.
Zizzi’s dished up some classic Italian plates, including spaghetti bolognese and penne pomodoro but it was the Italian style pizza’s that came out on top, Norbert in particular loved every pizza!
If all this talk of food has got your mouth-watering, why not bring the little ones along for a tasty treat and avoid the washing up?
The Panel have been very busy testing the most popular toys for this summer! The Entertainer, Tiger and Wilko provided the toys which each fell within one of three pricing brackets, under £10, under £5 and under £3.
The Panel tested each toy (very thoroughly) before giving a rating out of 10. A Water Gun from Tiger scored top marks, with Snap It and a Space Hopper from The Entertainer in second place. The Phlatt Ball V3 from The Entertainer was also really popular, as was a pop-up football goal and Golfing Set from Wilko. If the weather stays warm all of these toys will be perfect for the school holidays!
Milkshake making with Shakin' It
The Panel of Fun have created their very own milkshake flavours for Shakin' It on Level 1! Cream, skittles, biscuits and chocolate made it into the milkshake mix. The winning milkshake was Charlotte's Messy Eaton Mess, which is a mix of raspberry and strawberry Crusha, milk, one meringue, strawberry and raspberry sauce, all topped with whipped cream and crushed Oreo'. It will be available to buy at Shakin' It during July. Yum!
Pizza designing with Zizzi
During May the Panel of Fun designed their very own pizzas, and when Zizzi opens at the end of July they will be making them. We can't wait to taste each pizza.
Film Review - Minions
Jay, our Head of Fun has recently reviewed Minions. It features the little yellow characters most recently seen in Despicable Me 2. In this film, the Minions are starting to feel very upset as they have a continuous stream of rubbish masters to work for. This is what Jay had to say...
Parts of the film were funny, but some parts were a little boring.
The film is about a whole army of minions who need a boss. Three minions - Kevin, Stuart and Bob - decide to search for a boss and find a woman named Scarlet Overkill. She asks the Minions to steal the Queens crown, but they get caught which results in Bob accidentally becoming the king.
I would rate this film as two and a half out of five, based on the fact that it wasn't quite as funny as I expected it to be. I do think children under 10 would find the film really funny though!
