The search for our Christmas Star 2016 continues and we can now reveal our final 5 nominees!

The person with the most votes will be transformed into our Christmas Star and get to officially light up the centre at our Christmas light switch on event on Thursday 10 November! Check out the information below on why our final five were nominated and make sure you submit your vote via the form at the bottom of this page. Voting closes on Friday 28 October so get those votes rolling in! Good luck to the nominees and thank you to everyone who nominated their heroes.

Bella-Rose Stanwix

Bella-Rose

Bella-Rose is a 4 year old from Hemel Hempstead who was just beaten cancer for the second time and is currently recovering from a bone marrow transplant at Great Ormond Street Hospital. Her family are hoping she will return home in the coming weeks, where she hopes to go back to school to see all her friends. Bella-Rose’s mum has also ran the London Marathon to help raise awareness of childhood cancer.

Bella-Rose is described as an amazing, brave and inspiring little girl.She was nominated by a family friend, Amanda.

Elizabeth Timmons

Elizabeth Timmons

Although Elizabeth is past retirement age, she tirelessly volunteers and fundraises for Peace Hospice Care amongst other charities. She volunteers every Tuesday in the Inpatient Unit at the hospice, serving tea and comfort to both patients and their families. As a young girl, Elizabeth was also a midwife at Watford General Hospital for many years and has brought hundreds of local Watford babies into the world – she is even still in touch with many of these families today!

Elizabeth is described as a remarkable lady and a stalwart support for many people throughout her life. She was nominated by a colleague, Jan.

Megan McLaughlin

Megan McLaughlin

Megan, 8, was diagnosed with Spina Bifida before birth. Her parents were told that she would be unable to use her legs and would be confined to a wheelchair. Despite her disabilities, Megan is always willing to try new things with a smile on her face. She can propel her own wheelchair and is now working on her strength for walking, aided by specialist leg braces. Megan has been busy trying out various sports and participating with Paralympic athletes recently - she is even now part of a wheelchair racing team!

Megan is described as a lovely, caring and funny girl who is a true inspiration to all.She was nominated by a family friend, Steven.

Janita Morrell

Despite being in her 70s, Janita has volunteered at Herts Inclusive theatre for over 8 years. Herts Inclusive Theatre offers children and adults with learning and physical disabilities the opportunity to participate in drama, dance and music in an inclusive and safe environment. Janita doesn’t let her own health problems get in the way of her volunteering work – which includes teaching, coaching drama, fundraising and even helping out in the office when needed.

Janita is described as being a rock for many of the children who attend sessions – she is steadfast and committed to helping others.She was nominated by a colleague, Victoria

Chloe Sweeney

Chloe Sweeney

Chloe is a 6 year old who was diagnosed with childhood cancer – Ewing’s Sarcoma – a year ago at the age of 5. She has spent the last year having chemotherapy, surgery and radiation at Great Ormond Street Hospital away from her friends. Chloe’s favourite place before her diagnosis was the swimming pool, which she has been unable to return to since due to a Hickman Line in her chest which is used for her chemotherapy.

Chloe’s mum describes her as being very brave and deserving of a treat.She was nominated by her mum, Siobhan.

Standard Competition Terms and Conditions

Special terms may apply to particular competitions in addition to these terms, and those terms can be found at the relevant competition page or entry form. If any special competition term conflicts with these Terms, the special competition term will apply.

  1. If you wish to participate in the competition you must agree to these terms and conditions (“Terms”). By entering the competition, all entrants will be deemed to have accepted these Terms, so please read these Terms carefully.

The competition is only open to residents of the UK aged 18 [or 16 depending on competition] or over, excluding employees and contractors, agents and service providers of Intu Properties plc, intu Watford or any retailers at intu Watford, any family members of such employees or contractors and anyone professionally associated with this competition.
  3. Only one entry per person. No purchase required.
  4. All entry instructions for the competition will form part of these Terms. The entry instructions can be found on the relevant page of www.intu.co.uk/watford  or are available at Customer Services.
  5. To enter the competition, please: (a) complete the official entry form available on www.intu.co.uk/watford  ; or (b) submit the entry form available at Customer Services. Entries must be submitted by the specified closing date.
  6. The prize winner(s) will be the person(s) with the first correct entry or entries drawn at random by an independent person selected by us.
  7. The prize winner(s) will be notified by post within 5 days of the closing date of the competition.
  8. The prize winner’s surname and county will be made available on the competition page at www.intu.co.uk/watford 
  9. The prize winner may be required to take part in some promotional activity as a condition of receiving the prize e.g. publicity photos. If you are required to take part in such promotional activity, you agree that we may (but are not obliged to) use your images and/or any footage in which you appear in our promotional campaigns, which may include press and magazine advertising, direct mail, outdoor advertising, transport advertising (such as buses), social media advertising (such as Facebook and Twitter), in-centre advertising (such as floor graphics and banners), leaflets and flyers and on our website. You will not be entitled to receive payment for any such use by us of your image or footage in which you appear.
  10. The decision of intu Watford is final and binding in all matters relating to this competition, and no correspondence will be entered into.
  11. Prizes are subject to availability. The prize(s) will be as stated on www.intu.co.uk/watford  Winner(s) must collect their prize at intu Watford within 30 days of the closing date of the competition. There is no cash alternative in whole or in part for prizes. Prizes are non-negotiable, non-refundable and non-transferable.
  12. Prizes cannot be used in conjunction with any other offers or promotions.
  13. Information you provide to us on the entry form will be used to contact you for the purposes of the competition. We may need your date of birth to verify that you are entitled to enter this competition, but will not use it for any other purpose. If you have selected the options to be contacted by intu Watford and its’ retailers for marketing purposes, we will only use your information for those purposes. We will not pass on your information to any third parties.

  15. We reserve the right to refuse to award prizes to anyone in breach of these Terms.

We reserve the right to: (i) award an alternative prize of equal or greater value; (ii) in exceptional circumstances, vary, amend or cancel this competition at any time on reasonable notice, including varying the closing date for the competition; (iii) cancel or refuse any individual’s entry to the competition if they are in breach of these Terms; and (iv) amend these Terms, in which case we will use reasonable efforts to notify such changes to entrants and potential entrants.
  17.  Other than for fraudulent misrepresentation or death or personal injury arising from our negligence, we exclude, to the full extent permitted by law, all liability for any loss, damage, cost and expense you may incur, whether direct or indirect and however caused, in connection with this competition or the prizes.

1. The nomination stage opens on Monday 19 September 2016 at 8am and closes on 2 October 2016 at 11:59pm
2. All nominations will then go to a panel who will chose their top 5 shortlisted entries
3. The shortlisted entries will then go to a public vote on Monday 10 October 2016. Voting closes on Friday 28 October at 11:59pm
4. Votes can be given online at www.intu.co.uk/watford or in person by voting at intu Watford at the customer service desk
5. The winner must be available to attend our light swtich on event which is taking place on Thursday 10 November 2016
6. Only one vote per email address will be counted. Multiple votes will not apply.
