Climbing Wall Essentials (DVD)

      Cotswold Outdoor UK

There are now climbing walls in almost every town and city across the UK, and huge numbers of people visit them every week. They have the advantage of being totally weatherproof and are easy to get to.Whether you are an experienced climber who uses a climbing wall for training for the outdoors, a beginner climber visiting the climbing wall for the first time, or an indoor only climber who uses the wall for keeping fit, meeting friends and competing in friendly competitions – Climbing Wall Essentials shows the skills needed to operate safely and efficiently in an indoor climbing centre.Although indoor climbing walls may be perceived as a safe environment to learn how to climb and try new techniques, there are still plenty of pitfalls and dangers that must be avoided through knowledge and experience imparted in this film.Climbing Wall Essentials also details information on, warming up, improving your technique, how to lead climb, pushing your grade, introducing children to climbing walls, and entering the world of competition climbing. It also looks at how to make that important transition from climbing indoors to climbing outdoors on rock. The information in this DVD is relevant to all climbing walls. But remember, climbing walls are all different and consequently have different designs and management and therefore different rules and regulations which must be adhered to and understood when visiting each individual climbing centre. This DVD is a must for any enthusiastic indoor climber, no matter what stage they are at in their climbing development. Scooters in the Sahara DVD

      Cotswold Outdoor UK

All proceeds from the Scooters in the Sahara DVD are donated to the Bansang Hospital Appeal, a charity which funds life saving medical care in The Gambia. Scooters in the Sahara tells the epic tale of 9 men's voyage from the UK down through Spain, Morocco, Western Sahara, Mauritania, Senegal and finally to the Bansang Hospital in The Gambia. The remarkable 4000 mile trek over snow capped mountains and through the Sahara desert was completed on 90cc scooters! Although the journey for the riders ended at Bansang Hospital, for the scooters the work was far from over. They are to be put to use by the doctors: the small hospital serves over 600,000 people and the scooters will prove a vital resource for the staff, enabling them to visit those who cannot make the trip themselves. Telling the warts and all story of the trip, Scooters in the Sahara includes crashes, arguments, touching moments and follows the group from the planning stages, right though the demanding ride. As well as joining the riders on their journey, by buying the DVD you are really making a difference: sales of 1000 copies will rebuild the operating theatre at Bansang; another 2000 and another can be built.

Ultimate Marathon Man: Scotland to the Sahara (DVD)

      Cotswold Outdoor UK

This was the challenge of a lifetime for Edinburgh doctor and ultra-marathon runner Andrew Murray. With minimal support, and in the middle of winter, he planned to run an ultra marathon every day, from the tip of Scotland to the Sahara desert. If successful he would create a new ultra-marathon running record. The distance from John O'Groats to Merzouga in Morocco is 2,659 miles and Andrew planned to complete the distance in 85 days, with no rest days! (In the end he completed the distance in 78 days.) That's the equivalent of 100 marathons run end to end – and not a single day off to recover. As a medic, Andrew knew exactly what that would do to his body and it wasn't good news. Attempting to cram in a staggering 8,000 calories every day is extremely difficult and doesn't stop the body from beginning to break down. The constant pounding on hard roads and pavements would inevitably take its toll on muscles and joints, so why do it?
